Remember CFB Chilliwack

April, 1942, The Royal Canadian Engineers departed Dundurn SK by train, for Chilliwack, BC.

Upon arrival, the 1200 troops under Major Davies formed in three ranks and with accompaniment from the local cadet band, marched to Vedder Crossing.

Pictured here is the first camp, consisting of bell tents. This location eventually became the Parade Square.

The camp was to be known as A6 Canadian Engineer Training Centre (CETC). Over the next several years, the Sappers constructed Camp Chilliwack and as it was eventually named, the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering (RCSME). As WWII progressed, tradesmen, trained here went to serve in Europe.
